Michelle and I had a very positive experience building our first home with Zazen and in particular, Dino. As first time home builders, we greatly valued working with someone who was able to demonstrate their knowledge of the industry in a down to earth manner, helping to take some of the complexity out of the process.

Dino was at all times polite, helpful and willing to take the time to explain things that we didn’t understand. From the beginning we were given access to view homes being constructed by Zazen, to give us a feel for the quality and attention that goes into their homes. In addition, Dino was consistently available and never failed to respond promptly to an email or return a call.

Dino’s advise and suggestions were also really appreciated, as we at times struggled to visualise structures or finishes. He even went so far to show us around his own house to give us some ideas!

Dino was very patient with us throughout and we never felt pressured into going down a path that we were not comfortable with. Futhermore, things happened when he said the would and were virtually no unwelcome surprises during the build. Having heard countless horror stories from friends and colleagues who have previously built with other builders, this was a particularly welcome outcome.

After visiting a lot of building display centres my daughter and I would never get everything we wanted in a house. Whilst some houses had the wow factor on closer inspection there were lots of issues with craftsmanship and lack of detail. We thought that if the display house was not 100% perfect with its workmanship and that builder’s reputation was being put out there then what would it be like to build with them.

Instead we decided to build with a boutique builder and one that was close to home using local trade people as well was of a great benefit to us.

The first time I met Dino I felt at ease. His easy going nature is genuine and he leaves you feeling at ease when asking what may seem like strange questions. He is quick to understand what it is that you want in a house and we moved forward with the design. Being a boutique builder Dino always had time to respond to emails and queries and the plans were agreed upon once commenced without any major issues. He gave great advice like size of windows in stairwells, bench tops etc. Organised the additional things like air conditioning, where to go and get products from.

When we met for the Pre-Start it took forever. What was an appointed time for a few hours turned into many hours. Dino never made us feel like we were taking up too much time and answered all questions always in a professional helpful manner. We took samples home, sometimes for a week to see how light reflected on glass samples to use for the splash backs etc. It is these type of details that leave you not feeling stressed and in control of your own house and idea’s.

Dino’s team are also great craftsman. Any issues that may have arisen were resolved in such a short time frame and with care. Site meetings were always in great detail with any queries being responded to usually by the end of that day. Looking back, there are not too many customers who can honestly say they had no major issues during a build.

Our build took approx. 12 months from the slab being poured to handover. The site was always left clean by the tradies. When visiting the site, tradies were always polite. Workmanship was always of a high quality and there seemed to be not a lot of waste of materials. All materials used were of the highest quality.

Dino and his team go that extra step to ensure that you get the house that you have envisioned become a reality. The “Lock up” meeting was in great detail ensuring that we were happy with everything. We were walked through the complete house checking and testing to ensure everything was to our satisfaction.

If I were to build again, I would not hesitate to build another Zazen home.

Melville

Dino Colica of Zazen Building and Design and his partner, John Simunovich commenced building my house at 81 Kitchener Road, Melville in May 2011.

This was a challenge for Zazen as they had to work from a house plan designed by my son and drawn up by an independent draftsman of my choice.

The various tradesmen chosen and employed by Zazen did their work exceptionally.

As the house build progressed, my son and I inspected each step and stage, checking it off the plan and specifications. If we noticed any discrepancy, we felt comfortable in making immediate contact with Dino to discuss correction of such matters. Dino was most obliging and quick to authorise remediation of any issues..

Our communications with Dino were always amenable and his primary concern was always client satisfaction and outstanding quality.

I moved into my completed new house on 22nd December, 2011 (about 8.5 months after the build commencement). I was delighted with the result.

In the several years after I moved in, if ever some small thing occurred which needed attention/adjustment, I had no hesitation in contacting Dino, who happily and promptly arranged for an inspection to be conducted and for the issue be remedied accordingly.

The ongoing client service from Dino was dependable and most reassuring.

We have been in our new home for about 5 months and simply love it. The main emphasis for our new home was to find a balance between stylish, modern and practical and with the team from Zazen Building & Design we believe we have achieved this.

This in first time we have ever build or been involved in building a house. Looking back it’s been a very smooth project and we are extremely pleased with the entire outcome of our beautiful home.

From our initial meeting with Dino and John through to the final handover we found them extremely easy, approachable, reliable and trustworthy. We followed the whole building process very closely (only living a couple of kms away we were on site almost daily) and all of our queries and questions were responded to straight away being that via phone, email or site meeting. We had over a dozen variations to our plans/design during the building process and not once did all our changes or queries seem to be an issue or bother for either John or Dino. We found them extremely easy to deal with and very helpful. Very professional and Dino’s helpfulness and advise on selection of colour scheme, whitegoods, hardware etc. was very valuable.

Everyone say’s building is a stressful time of your life but with Zazen Building & Design we had a hassle free build. The quality and workmanship and attention to detail of their building tradespeople was excellent.
